Caribbean chocolate Festival in Maho: Appetizing models tantalize audiencePOSTED: 07/27/15 8:05 PM
St. Maarten – Award winning chef and expert chocolatier, Veejooruth Purmessur and his assistant Ronald Stephen added the Midas touch to the chocolate flavored models on the opening night of the Caribbean Chocolate Festival at the Sonesta Maho Beach convention center last Friday.
It was certainly a fashion show with a difference, some of the models went as far as having parts of their bodies glazed for added effects, and the earrings they wore were covered in chocolate. Even more breathtaking were the outfits they wore – partially saturated with patches of chocolate designs in the form of leaves, flowers, biscuits, hearts and shells.
However it was the final act that had a mouthwatering effect when Charity Donker, wearing a chocolate splattered blue outfit gracefully sauntered across the stage and eventually the floor. In her hands she held a small chocolate designed guitar. Her accessories included a chocolate necklace, intricate chocolate artwork on her arms and the white fluffy wings of an angel on her back.
The festival which concluded last evening with a gala and awards ceremony kept the organizers busy with on stage chocolate demonstrations last Saturday, face painting, cup cake competition, chocolate challenge, chocolate wedding cake demonstrations, chocolate martini competition and chocolate party creations.
The event attracted a modest but very interested audience on Saturday, when Purmessur shared some – but not all – of his chocolate secrets with them and of course offered the opportunity to taste his creations – from almonds with white chocolate to a surprising spicy little chocolate bite.
Zee Best gave a demonstration about decorating wedding cakes.
