GREATBAY– St. Maarten Cable TV has responded to allegations from their competitor Wireless Telecommunications Network that St. Maarten Cable TV is responsible for signal interference resulting in service issues for WTN Cable TV subscribers in selected areas.
Managing director of St. Maarten Cable TV Beulah Jonis said St. Maarten Cable TV and its regulator, Bureau Communication and Post St. Maarten (BTP-SXM), are presently investigating the recent allegations made by Wireless Telecommunications Network (WTN) Cable. BTP-SXM is the independent regulatory authority for the telecommunications and post industry and is responsible for the maintenance of a competitive environment within the telecommunications and post industry on the island of St. Maarten.
“We were advised by BTP-SXM to work on some existing issues of which the work has been completed. Our technical team has since been working tirelessly with BTP-SXM and has found no evidence thus far to support the claim made by WTP. BTP-SXM will continue to conduct tests to confirm whether there is any truth to the aforementioned allegations,” Jonis said.
The process of investigating the alleged interference started on February 24, of which customers in Dutch Quarter, Middle Region area and part of Madame Estate would have experienced periodic outages of their internet and cable TV services. Jonis added, “St. Maarten Cable TV subscribers in these areas may continue to experience these periodic outages of our services until BTP-SXM finds the actual source of the interference.”
