St. Maarten – The Council of Ministers is still divided about proposals by Justice Minister Roland Duncan to legalize abortion, euthanasia and prostitution. Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams declined to reveal her position on the issue during Wednesday’s press briefing. “We have had, as you can imagine, some good discussions about it in the Council of Ministers,” she said.
The Prime Minister said that there have been some discussions, in particular about abortion and euthanasia in the Council that “went back and forth,” suggesting that there are differences of opinion on the issue in the cabinet.
“We are not out of it yet in terms of how the Council of Ministers looks at this issue,” Wescot-Williams said. “It is an ongoing discussion and I do not want to get ahead of it.”
