St. Maarten – The Byblos Lounge in Simpson Bay is teaming up with the St. Maarten Aids Foundation for the month of June to heighten awareness of HIV and raise funds for prevention and testing programs on the island.

For the entire month of June, Byblos will donate $1 from each dinner guest to the Aids Foundation. The month will culminate with a fundraising dinner at the restaurant on Saturday June 29, where 20% of the proceeds from the buffet dinner and entertainment will again be donated to the Aids Foundation. “We are no strangers to helping out the community”, said Jacob, the owner of Byblos Lounge, “We’ve been involved with the Aids organization in Aruba, as well as several nonprofit organizations here on Sint Maarten and Haiti. I myself also know what it’s like to be helped, and I relish the opportunity to help others where I can”. Rae Merlet, the Executive Director of the Aids Foundation said, “We are thrilled to embark on a month-long partnership with Byblos. The funds raised will go a long way in procuring HIV tests that we in turn offer for free to the island population. I especially like the idea of getting a good meal while contributing to the community!”

The Benefit Buffet will start at 6 p.m. on June 29 and will continue throughout the evening. Tickets are $25, which includes a buffet dinner featuring Old World Mediterranean/ Lebanese cuisine and one drink (wine or soda). Entertainment throughout the evening will feature house Belly Dancer Hillie and Gregor Anderson on the keyboard for some lively tunes. Advance ticket sales will start later this week at the restaurant (reservations: +587 1732) and from the Aids Foundation members (+588 4636 or +553 2626).

More details on the Fundraising dinner can be found on the Facebook pages of both the Aids Foundation and Byblos Lounge (facebook.com/sxmaidsfoundation and facebook.com/ByblosLoungeSXM).
