BVI Cavaliers faces Nagico United in T/20 goodwill series

St. Maarten – Keith Semple, a former West Indies player, will be wearing two caps as player/coach for the Nagico Cavaliers from the British Virgin Islands when they go up against the Nagico United Cricket team in back to back T/20 matches starting today at 2:00 p.m. Semple, a right handed batsman and medium pace bowler from Guyana is by far the most experienced player on that team but he will be depending heavily on the rest of the team to be productive with the bat and the ball.
The responsibility for the success of the BVI team will fall squarely on the shoulders of Daniel Singh, the wicketkeeper Captain. He must lead from the front. Vishal Bharat, a right hand bat, right arm off break bowler who featured among other things in the Sanford T/20 series back in 2008 and Vaden Walker, who like Bharat competed at the Leeward Islands level are some the notable players on the BVI team. The visiting team held a final practice session at the Charles Vlaun playing field. They practiced as the grounds men worked feverishly to make the pitch and the outfield ready for the matches. The indications are that the pitch will have lots of bounce on the balls delivered by the fast bowlers, but the conditions will not favor the spin bowlers.
“Our best preparation is a mental one because we are not involved in any tournament back in the BVI and we don’t have a proper ground like you have here. We are not underestimating the Nagico team, but we are looking forward to the challenge,” Singh said.
Imran Mc Sood Amjad, an experienced off-spinning all rounder, is returning for the NAGICO United CC. He’ll be joining national captain Romain Doodnauth, fast bowler Marlon Brutus, former captain Lionel Ritchie, stalwarts Keith Carty and Stephen Evans just to name a few.
“In all T/20 games, the conditions always favors the batting side. I really don’t know the ability of the players from the Cavaliers, but a score in excess of 170 will be a descent score to chase,” Carty, who also fills in as a commentator for regional matches observed.
