Budget discussions resume Thursday

POSTED: 02/29/12 1:57 PM

St. Maarten – The continuation of discussions on the 2012 National Budget has been rescheduled for Thursday so that government can complete the process of swearing in all civil servants from the seven ministries. The swearing in began on Tuesday and will continue all day on Wednesday, when the discussions were expected to continue.

“We could not put the civil servants on the backburner and so we decided to give the government an additional day. This also gives the Members of Parliament the chance to further peruse the answers that have been provided,” Arrindell said.

The meeting will start at 10.00am in the General Assembly Chamber of the House of Parliament on Wilhelmina Straat #2.1 in Philipsburg. Members of the Council of Ministers are expected to be present for the meeting in order to provide additional information to Members of Parliament (MPs) with respect to the national budget. Government has already answered a number of questions in writing and MPs will be able to ask additional questions when the meeting resumes on Thursday.

Thursday’s meeting will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 20, via Pearl Radio FM 98.1., on www.pearlfmradio.com and www.sxmparliament.org
