BT&P hosts seminar with hospitality link

St. Maarten – The Bureau of Telecommunications & Post (BT&P) St. Maarten issued a statement Monday congratulating all workers in the telecommunications and information and communication technologies (ICT) sector on the occasion of World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD) which is being celebrated today.
To mark the occasion BT&P has organized a seminar under the theme, “Cloud Computing in the Hospitality Industry.” The keynote speaker is William Sullivan of the University of Delaware. The seminar will be held at Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort & with registration and opening at 8:30 a.m. and the seminar starting at 9:00 a.m.
World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated annually on May 17 since 1969, marking the founding of International Telecommunications Union (ITU). In November 2005, the World Summit on the Information Society called upon the United Nations General Assembly to declare May 17 as World Information Society Day to focus on the importance of ICT and the wide range of issues related to the Information Society.
The General Assembly adopted a resolution in March 2006 stipulating that World Information Society Day shall be celebrated every year on May 17.
The theme this year is: WTISD 2011: Better life in rural communities with ICTs.
