Broad support for joining Parlatino Political Committee

St. Maarten – All five faction leaders in parliament and President of Parliament Gracita Arrindell are set to become St. Maarten’s members in the Political, Municipal Affairs and Integration Committee of the Latin American Parliament. The advice for this to happen received broad support in the Central Committee on Wednesday and will now be sent to a general public meeting for approval.

Independent Member of Parliament Frans Richardson, National Alliance Member of Parliament George Pantophlet and United People’s Party Member of Parliament Johan Leonard were the three MPs to support joining the committee. All pointed out that being present will allow the country to participate in discussions on issues that they could eventually get drawn into. One example is the discussion at the last Parlatino meeting on a motion denouncing the Netherlands that was tabled by Curacao. Pantophlet also believes that joining the committee will further the country’s regional integration efforts.
