St. Maarten – Instructor Melissa Bardfield announced in a press statement that SXM BJJ will start classes for children’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu this Monday.
Bardfield returned from an educational trip to Rio de Janeiro where she completed a two week specialized teachers training course for children age 3-7 years. Bardfield studied under Mestre Leao Teixeira at the Escola de Jiu Jitsu.
SXM BJJ will follow the guidelines and graduation rules of this prestigious school and bring in new elements of self-defense training for the kids. SXM BJJ is an official Renzo Gracie Academy, an affiliation that carries prestige in the martial arts world.
Previously SXM BJJ had all the kids of various ages in a single class, for 1 hour. The new schedule will feature two age groups: 4-7 and 8-13. The 4-7 year olds will train for 45 minutes and have more games, teaching balance, discipline and teamwork. The older students will train for 1 hour as they have a longer attention span. The new year will also feature an open training session and graduation ceremony for the families of the students to recognize the hard work and dedication the kids have shown.
Training will take place every Monday and Wednesday at 4:45-5:15pm for ages 4-7 and 5:30-6:30 for ages 8-13. The dojo is located on the second floor above the Cakehouse Bakery on 18 LB Scott Rd, on the way to St. Peters.
