St. Maarten –Finance Minister Hiro Shigemoto announced Tuesday that the Council of Ministers (COM) has put forward attorney Jairo Bloem as one of St Maarten’s candidates for the Supervisory Board of the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten. The other two members are Robbie Ferron and Marciela Illidge.

Bloem’s name was approved as fellow attorney and former Lt. Governor Ralph Richardson withdrew his candidacy on Monday. The resolutions with the appointments will be sent to Governor Eugene Holiday for signing “within short.” They will then be sent to Curacao’s Finance Minister George R.M. Jamaloodin and the President of the Central Bank.

A transition regulation was signed in March with Curacao’s Minister of Finance regulating the new CBCS. The signing was seen as “a significant development in the young life of country St. Maarten.” Minister Shigemoto travelled to Curacao several times and met with his counterpart to discuss the future role of CBCS and pending banking matters that needed to be dealt with once the regulation was put in place.

“We need to move forward with the appointment of members of the Bank’s supervisory board and then the financial institution can move forward in dealing with pending Central Bank matters,” Shigemoto stated on Tuesday.
