St. Maarten – Last Saturday the Celebration Place was the setting of the benefit concert for the De King Arrow Foundation. The well attended fundraising was put together by De King Arrow (Errol Dolphin) after suffering from two heart attacks. The support for the fundraising came from a cross the section of the community, especially the entertainment industry.
President of the foundation, Rolando Tobias explains why they put this event together; “He is now recuperating, but we wanted to raise some funds for his medical expenses and that is why we started the foundation,” he said.
Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams was among the huge gathering to witness the star and many others. A big line up of entertainers were there to perform free of charge and that included Rupert ‘King Swallow’ Philo from Antigua & Barbuda. During the event the prime minister congratulated the performing calypsonians and the various other artists for joining hands in supporting the ailing elder calypsonian. “I recall Arrow’s work in the entertainment field for the past decades and praise the fact that in his time of need, his friends and colleagues have come together to raise funds for him. I would like to remind the community of Arrow’s “Constitution” song; One Destiny, which is definitively my favorite.
The evening’s program also featured appearances by Lady Upsetter, Princess Aquilla, King Barrow, Mighty Dando, Mighty Kirk, Chipman, Calypso Barbara, The Hammer, Cedric Rey, King Repeater, Genius, Fish De Mega Boss, Kaiso Brat, Jaco, King Stunky and The Mighty Dow.
In addition to the calypsonians, there was also entertainment by Rudy Davis dance performers, Lady Rosa Richardson, a tribute by the Control Band and a vote of thanks by Fernando Williams.
