Bergman joins Advisory Council as extraordinary member

Governor drs Eugene Holiday stands with Attorney at Law Rik Bergman after the latter was sworn in as an extraordinary member of the Advisory Council last Thursday.

St. Maarten – Attorney at Law Rik Bergman was sworn in as an extraordinary member of the Advisory Council last Thursday. The oath was administered by Governor drs Eugene Holiday.
Bergman, who is one the managing partners at the island’s largest law firm – Bergman Zwanniken Snow Essed – is a former Dean of the Bar Association and has served on the board of the St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association and the University of St. Maarten. He’s also worked as Chairman of the Foundation of Professional Education for lawyers and together with his brother Gert Bergman he helped Winair survive a moratorium. Bergman first moved to St. Maarten in 1997 after starting in 1992 in Curacao.
The council advises government and parliament on draft laws. They also advise government on draft national decrees containing general measures. The council, which is one of the High Councils of State alongside the Ombudsman and General Audit Chamber may give solicited or unsolicited advice.
