Auction Christopher’s land continues as scheduled

St. Maarten – The auction of Elaine Christopher’s property in Statia will continue as scheduled tomorrow. On Friday, the Court in First Instance heard arguments in summary proceedings about the auction that is scheduled to take place tomorrow. Christopher asked the court to stop it because she considers the mortgage contract the Windward Islands Bank gave her in 2009 fraudulent and invalid. The bank’s attorney, Willem Nelissen, labeled the plaintiff’s arguments as “phantasies and delusions.” The court will rule on the dispute on October 18.

Yesterday the property appeared as property #8 in an advertisement of Notary Office SPS for auction tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Pasanggrahan Beach Hotel.

Notary Lars de Vries told this newspaper that he is aware of the lawsuit. “But when there is no verdict the auction will continue as scheduled. We are not even allowed to cancel it,” he said.

The reserve price for the parcel of land, located in Zeelandia on Statia, is $32,900.
