Attorney appointed St. Maarten university’s new president

St. Maarten – The University of St. Martin (USM) Board formally announced Tuesday that Annelies van den Assem LL. M has been appointed the new President. The appointment took effect May 1 and Van den Assem is presently familiarizing herself with the institution and making an assessment of operations and programs.
Van den Assem studied law at the University of Leiden and Public Law at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. In her professional life she has worked at the Council of State, the General Audit Chamber and at the (former) Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations in The Netherlands.
Van den Assem’s specialty is setting-up organizations from the ground-up as well as transforming and fostering innovation in existing organizations. Her last job was the setting-up of the Cabinet of the Governor of St. Maarten.
