St. Maarten – United People’s party MP Gracita Arrindell supports the call for a national law for the screening of ministers. “This is a step in the right direction” Arrindell stated in a press release. “We are looking forward to receive the draft law proposal during this first term of parliament, and prior to when the next polls are held.”

Arrindell stated that there should be “mature and non-partisan support towards having this important legislation passed.”

The MP stated that currently ministers are sworn in based on a law that was taken over from the former Netherlands Antilles. “It is important that we have integrity at all levels of our public administration – both at the executive level (the Council of Ministers) and the legislative branch (the parliament).”
