GREAT BAY – St. Maarten’s President of Parliament drs Gracita Arrindell is one of a long list of speakers at celebration on Tuesday to mark the 25th Anniversary of Aruba’s Parliament. The ceremony, which will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Hotel Aruba is part of the official program to mark Aruba’s 25th anniversary of being an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
“Aruba is a clear example of how beneficial country status has been for them during the past 25-years after they left the constellation of the former Netherlands Antilles. Our country is just one-year old and there is still much to be done and to build. We are on the right track and things will take time especially in the current volatile global economic environment that we are being confronted with as an open economy small island nation. I am happy to share experiences with colleagues and discuss the role parliament plays in a sustainable progressive society,” Arrindell said ahead of her departure on Monday.
The ceremony will be opened by Hendrik Croes who will serve as Master of Ceremonies. He will then introduce Aruba’s President of Parliament drs. P.F.T. Croes and the Secretary General of Parliament Jacqueline Bastien-Sherman, who are scheduled to deliver remarks. Former Antillean Prime Minister Etienne Ys is also to speak at the event. He will be followed by President of Curacao’s Parliament Ivar Asjes, Arrindell and Parlatino’s Secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission Walter Gavida before Chair of the Second Chamber Gerdi Verbeet delivers the keynote address.
