Arrindell meets Wescot-Williams and Duncan on legislation

St. Maarten – President of Parliament drs Gracita Arrindell says Thursday’s separate meetings with Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams and Justice Minister Roland Duncan on the legislative process were productive. The meetings were held at Arrindell’s request and follow a meeting with the Legal Affairs and Legislation where a protocol of understanding was established with respect to legislation.
“Clarity was received on the state of affairs with respect to the procedural process regarding the handling of national laws pending from the former Netherlands Antilles. These laws will be handled in the national assembly chamber of Parliament once they have been received from the Government. Minister Duncan also informed us about some new laws that will be sent to parliament within short related to security companies and the public notary among others. Parliament is looking forward to receiving the various laws in order to handle them accordingly,” Arrindell said on Thursday.
The legal position of people working for Parliament and those working for the factions was also discussed at length during the meeting with the prime minister.
The meetings between Arrindell and Wescot-Williams will be taking place on a regular basis as part of the process of open, good and efficient governance.
