St. Maarten – President of Parliament drs Gracita Arrindell was briefed on the latest developments at the University of St. Martin (USM) last week during a meeting with the tertiary institution’s President Annelies van den Assem, the Dean of Academic Affairs and board member Al Wathey. Arrindell will inform the chairperson of parliament’s permanent committee on Education, Youth, Sports and Culture Silvia Meyers-Olivacee about the presentation and propose she also meet with USM.

The presentation covered USM’s goals of self-sustainability; strengthening USM’s position within the community; USM becoming economically driven; USM becoming a hub in the region; and building up the student body.

Arrindell was informed about the issues that university is confronted with; the 2011 business plan and outcome; an accredited institution and an accredited education; USM new style, online and distance learning; and affiliation with other universities.

“I was very happy to hear about the on-going efforts to renew and restore the image of USM. The plans once fully implemented will be a win-win for the university, the business sector, students and government,” Arrindell said on Monday.
