St. Maarten – President of Parliament drs Gracita Arrindell has expressed her sympathy to the Meyers family on the passing of 81-year-old Eulalie Meyers-Hazel who passed away on Friday in the Dominican Republic. Arrindell who was in New York when she heard about the death was saddened to learn of the passing and saluted the deceased for being the family matriarch and a community activist.

“On behalf of the Parliament of St. Maarten, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to United Peoples (UP) party parliamentarian Sylvia Meyers-Olivacce and Minister and UP President Franklin Meyers on the passing of her mother-in-law and his beloved mother,” Arrindell wrote in a statement.

“Eulalie Meyers was a community icon involved in women’s affairs. Eulalie was friend, a mentor and a role model for so many years and to so many people, to her community that she loved, and to her church while she was a lay preacher. The work that Eulalie Meyers was involved in is indelibly etched in the collective psyche of all those who she touched. Everybody loved working with Mrs. Lalie as she was affectionately called. She was a true mother figure to many. Even though she may no longer be with us, her light of caring for others shines brightly, illuminating the lives that she has touched over the years,” Arrindell stated.
