St. Maarten – President of Parliament drs Gracita Arrindell will chair the Kingdom Inter-Parliamentary Consultation from January 10 to January 13. The announcement of the chairmanship was made in a statement on Thursday from the joint delegation from the Dutch First and Second Chamber, which will be headed by Chair of the Second Chamber’s Committee on Kingdom Relations Brigitte van der Burg. Delegations from the parliament of Aruba and the parliament of Curacao are also scheduled to attend the meetings here in St. Maarten.

The focus of talks from January 10 to January 13 are opportunities for cooperation between the countries in the Kingdom in areas like health, youth and young people and transport between the countries in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Proposed Kingdom laws and the guarantee function of the Kingdom will also form part of the agenda.

The four days of talks will be preceded by working visits to other islands in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. This includes Curacao on January 2 and January 3, Aruba on January 4, Bonaire on January 5, St. Eustatius on January and Saba on January 7.

The Dutch delegation wants to meet government ministers, members of parliament and people from social institutions on all islands, but they have placed emphasis on the latter group during the visits to Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba, which became public entities of the Netherlands on October 10, 2010.
