Arraignment suspect King murders set for tomorrow

St. Maarten – The suspect in last week’s murder of Michael King and Thelma Strickland King will be arraigned before the judge of instruction tomorrow before 1 p.m., his attorney mr. Brenda Brooks told this newspaper yesterday. The suspect is a 28-year-old security guard.

Due to the attorney-client privilege, the attorney was not able to answer questions about the status of the suspect. “I understood that he answered some preliminary questions, but I do not know their nature. I have not seen the file yet; that goes from the police to the prosecutor’s office and I’ll get to see it before the arraignment. My client has now called on his right to remain silent until his arraignment.”

mr. Brooks said that she had heard “through the grapevine” that her client is also a suspect in the armed robbery at the Happy Star restaurant that took place last week Wednesday on Cannegieter Street. On that occasion police fired shots at the robber or robbers that fled the scene in a black car. The vehicle was found a day later by a security guard on the road behind the former Cake House to Cole Bay with a bullet hole in the trunk.
