ANTILOPE IS OVERALL WINNER OF GILL CUP

POSTED: 03/4/11 8:49 PM

St. Maarten – At the beginning of the morning, the weather conditions was not so favorable, but by the time the Gill Commodore’s Cup was ready to start, the weather had cleared up and at the end of it all it was a combination of Belgian and Dutch sailors aboard Antilope that earned themselves the overall prize.

Like the Budget Marine Match Racing event, this warm up event has certainly sent a clear signal and those performances could very well repeat themselves when the 31st St. Maarten Heineken Regatta sails off this morning.

Antilope, a class five vessel, beat Otraves, which had a crew from Texas, into the second position while Day Trip, from Curacao was third. In the Class one event, the top prize went to the Australian crew aboard Jazz, Aquarious was in second, followed by Storm out of Trinidad & Tobago in third.

In class two, INTAC, a Melges 32, had no problems holding onto the top place ahead of our own, ‘Gill’ sponsored by Budget Marine while French Connection occupied the number three spot. In the Class 4 event, Passion 4C, with its German crew took the top spot ahead of Nikata, a Swan 82 from Great Britain and Dynamite, Beneteau, also from Great Britain.

In the Class six event, Ian Hope Ross and his able crew aboard Kick Em Jenny kept the St Maarten spirit alive to clinch the first place ahead of Blue Peter, a J30 from Antigua. Wild at Heart from Germany placed third.
