St. Maarten – A female security guard was assaulted at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort’s parking lot by one of the local visitors to the resort on Thursday evening. The visitor lost his parking ticket and refused to pay the amount that the security guard asked for after she learnt that he had lost his parking ticket. People who lose their parking ticket must pay an additional fine of $20 according to signs in the parking area.

The Head of Security at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort’s speaks to the man who attacked one of the female security guards on Thursday evening

The man, who was driving an SUV, held up the line for some time, hurling abuses and insults at the security guard. He also threatened to ensure she is fired if she did not allow him to leave before hitting her with the telephone that was at the security booth and part of her radio equipment when she tried to call her supervisor.

When the hotel’s head of security arrived the man acted as if he was innocent and paid the $20 after admitting he’d lost his ticket and that he did not have sufficient cash on him. The security chief instructed him to pay with his credit card, which he did before leaving.

The security guard has been advised to press charges because of the incident.
