Wedding anniversary in St. Maarten was couple’s last vacation
St. Maarten – Sarah Coalter-Finch and her husband went on a “vacation of a lifetime” in St. Maarten this summer to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary, Jeff Berger reports in his electronic newsletter St. Maarten Weekly News. It was their last vacation ever.
Coalter-Finch called St. Maarten in a brief statement to Berger “the best place in the world.” Three weeks after the couple’s return to Cedar springs, fate struck. Charles Finch was killed in a car accident while he was on his way to work.
The couple has three young children. The teacher of Finch’s son started a Gofundme campaign with the objective to raise $5,000 for the family. Within 24 hours the fundraiser hit $10,850.
The accident happened when 35-year-old Finch was on his way to a construction job in the Greenville area. Just before 6 a.m. on Monday, August 3, a driver coming from the opposite direction overtook another car and hit Finch’s vehicle frontally. Finch died on the spot and the female driver of the other car was seriously injured.
“We really need the funds,” Finch’s widow Sarah told Berger. “We really need it to build as we are waiting for funds to come in. My husband Charles loved this beautiful place called St. Maarten, we met tons of locals while we were there. The love around the island is amazing.”
