POSTED: 10/18/12 12:17 PM

St. Maarten – The stage is set for this Saturday for the second annual Seven Seas Rotary-Rotaract Spelling Bee preliminary round. Ten schools will be taking part, each represented by 3 students ages 9-10 years old.
This is a 50% increase compared to last year. The participants will be competing to advance to the semi-final round on October 27th. The Finals will be on November 3rd. All events will take place at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) in Cupecoy starting at 9 a.m.

In the preliminary round each student is stationed at a desk and the words will be spelt in writing. The semi-final and finals will be spelt out rounds, with the students taking turns on stage.
This year the participating schools are Charles Leopold Bell, Dr. Martin Luther King, Hillside Christian, Learning Unlimited, M.G. de Weever, Methodist Agogic Centre (BFM), Methodist Agogic Centre (JAG), St. Dominic Primary, Oranje School and Caribbean International Academy.

The Spelling Bee is funded by the main sponsor Seven Seas vitamins, minerals and supplements and their agents FOH Distributors, the Platinum sponsors Scotiabank and SOL, and various other contributors in kind.
The organizers of these events are the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle and the Rotaract Club of Sint Maarten Sunrise.
Because of the AUC location, for those participants and supporters who don’t have transportation, there will be buses stationed at Milton Peters College in South Reward and at the Government Administration parking lot in Philipsburg. On the days of the events, buses will be leaving at 7:45am and will pick up more Spelling Bee supporters at Fatum (Cul-de Sac), Kentucky (Cole Bay), Tropicana Casino (Cole Bay) and the SOL gas station in Simpson Bay. After the events the buses will transport persons back to where they were picked up.

The winner on the final day will receive a MAC Book Pro, 2nd prize an I-Pad and 3rd prize an I-Pod, all of which are the latest editions.
Works are underway to stream the semis and finals live on the internet.
