Exam class takes study leave

St. Maarten – The St. Maarten Academy honored its winning team at the St. Maarten Science Fair during Monday’s early morning assembly. The school’s volleyball team and the class of students preparing to sit their Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exams were also placed in the spotlight for their all round performances.

“This – the all roundedness – includes the academics, physical activities, sports and extra-curricula activities such as debating representing the island at various levels and in various competitions. These achievements have been our trademark and forms part of our history since we have always done very well. This includes CXC and the Cambridge examination results which have been excellent and in the field of sports we have also excelled,” the school’s Principal Shareed Hussain said.

Hussain is contemplating the creation of a dedicated space to house all the trophies the school has won as the dedicated space in the office has become too small.

“This means a lot to us because this is the motivating factor for the students and the teachers. Our teachers play a very significant role in motivating and inspiring the students to excellence. Without them the St. Maarten Academy would not have been able to achieve such great results. The students have the inner drive and feeling that they will be successful. It is that inner feeling that motivates them to be creative and to do the necessary research which results into excellent performances. In fact, if we look at the science projects that were produced by the students it shows the creativity of the students and the problems that they work on as projects are problems that government and the entire community need to pay special attention,” Hussain said.
