92 golfers compete under tough conditions – Hobgood prolongs golf title

St. Maarten – Defending champion Howard Hobgood, a long-time St. Maarten resident, won the St. Maarten Golf Open this weekend with an overwhelming edge over his closest rival, Stanley Samuel.

The golfers had to battle tough conditions on both days with lots of wind. The persistent drought made the golf course in Mullet Bay a challenge for the 92 competitors. The field consisted of players from both sides of the island, the United Kingdom, Nevis and St. Kitts. A large contingent of 20 players from Guadeloupe was also in the mix.

Hobgood led the field in the gross score. After correction for player-handicaps, Buzz Adamski topped the field, followed by Rodney Tackling. Sports goods store owner Sam Bashir had the overall lowest net score.
