St. Maarten – There will be an independent investigation into the functioning of the Central Bank for Curacao and St. Maarten. The finance ministers of both countries, José Jardim and Roland Tuitt signed an agreement to this extent.
Both parties agreed to leave establishing the terms of reference that determine the scope of the investigation to the Nederlandsche Bank, the Dutch Central Bank located in Amsterdam. This bank will also provide a list of internationally recognized bureaus that qualify for conducting the investigation.
The joint statement by the two finance ministers is the first step towards normalizing the relationship with the Central Bank, the Finance Ministry in Curacao said.
