Drag racers exhibit their carsPOSTED: 10/29/12 12:56 PM
St. Maarten – While the exact impact of the assembling of modified cars and supped up bikes on the parking lot along the Pondfill opposite the building of the Central Bank yesterday may not be felt immediately, what the organizers have been able to do was to further sensitize the sporting public on the outward appearances of their expensive drag racing machines.
The ‘show and tell’ also provided an opportunity for some of the top drag racers on the island to display what they have won over the years while competing abroad and offer an opportunity for new comers to showcase what they have been working on lately.
This display which was organized by the St Maarten Drag Racing Association was just another effort in their plight to have a drag racing strip erected on the island amid the concerns from a cross section of the community.
There were no live demonstrations however, so it is hard to tell what kind of sound levels the sleek looking cars will produce once they get down to business.
Currently, several drivers are preparing their machines to compete abroad, but with no facility to test them locally, they will have limited time to test and make the necessary adjustments prior the race day.
