Editorial: No common sense
POSTED: 08/20/12 5:38 PMGone in twenty seconds. That is what we witnessed on Sunday morning in French Quarter when two bikers took off for an illegal street race. Twenty seconds later a big cloud of dust marked the death of one of them.
Apparently these races are taking place on a regular basis. That makes us wonder why the gendarmerie does not take a pro-active approach to put a stop to this insanity.
Regular traffic was going about its business on this quiet Sunday morning until a bunch of gung-ho biker freaks stopped them to get their circus one more time on the road.
It is incomprehensible that the authorities do not intervene. The biker who lost his life yesterday morning will without any doubt leave people behind that loved him, but based on results he did not care enough about them to use some common sense.
