Minister Jacobs returns from visit to NetherlandsPOSTED: 08/9/12 12:16 PM
St. Maarten – Minister Education, Culture, Youth affairs and Sport Silveria Jacobs, just returned from her working visit from the Netherlands, informing all parents and concerned persons that all students arrived safely. Minister Jacobs and the students were well received by the S4 foundation as well as representatives of the cabinet of the Plenipotentiary Minister Mathias Voges. The reception they received was very welcoming and successful according to Minister Jacobs. Students have all been placed, students are ready for the school year and have all been placed and the mentors said to be bonding with them Jacobs expressed. Prior to Jacobs’s return to St. Maarten the minister had a get together cookout “St. Maarten style” with students and their mentors in Den Hague.
“The students had fun, are settled and have their housing, their schools and programs figured out. S4 is continuing to serve its purpose in the Netherlands of taking care of our student’s needs.” Jacobs said. During this visit in the Netherlands Minister Jacobs also contacted the regional training center ROC Landstede Zwolle for an exchange of information about on how to build up SBO programs and how to improve the language development of the students in St. Maarten prior to them leaving the country to further their studies even if they want to study in the region as well.
The Ministry of Education in the Netherlands also had representatives that met with Minister Jacobs cabinet as well as the cabinet of Minister Voges on the regulations of the corporation protocol which is still pending especially where it pertains to stimulating studying in the region. Preliminary talks with the Haagse Hogeschool were also held pertaining to bringing international law programs as well as an HBO law program which would then be available through the University of St. Maarten. Members of the Haagse Hogeschool will be visiting St. Maarten towards the end of August to continue these talks with the university and with the Education Ministry
