Prosecutor investigates bribe offer to MP Pisas
POSTED: 08/1/12 1:24 PMWillemstad – The Public Prosecutor’s Office has started an investigation into allegations by Mp Gilmar Pisas that he was offered a large sum of money to break the Schotte-coalition. Attorney general dick Piar decided to start the investigation, after Pisas made statements about the attempted bribery to a local TV-station and to the Papiamento-language newspapers Ultimo Noticia and Vigilante.
The vigilante reported last week that Pissas had been offered an amount of six figures. On the same day Ultimo Noticia mentioned an amount of 750,000 guilders.
Pisas, who is a police detective, said that these offers were made to him three times. In exchange for the money he had to withdraw his support from the coalition and continue as an independent MP. Pisas however, opted to report the bribery-attempt to the police and the prosecutor’s office.
