MARIGOT, St. Martin – Vice president in charge of the Community and Sustainable Development Guillame Arnell and Territorial Councilor with responsibility for transport Louis Fleming presented Melvin Hunt Jr. and Emile Larmony with French drivers licenses on Monday. The latter duo is the first to convert driver’s licenses on Dutch side into French drivers licenses based on a special arrangement agreed to by the two sides.
Hunt Jr. and Larmony thanks the two officials for the presentation and congratulated them on their effectiveness. Both gentlemen and Arnell also thanked the Prefet Delegue Phillipe Chopin for his role in the exercise and for understanding the specificities of local life. Arnell also saluted the work done by former territorial councilor Arnel Daniel, while Fleming thanked all the players who participated in the resolution of this issue and paid tribute to their efficiency in achieving this work.
The resolution on the French side to allow the conversion of Dutch side drivers licenses to French ones was approved on July 10 after consultations with Chopin the gendarmerie and the prosecutor. The measure does not cover people who have driver’s licenses issued in Saba and St. Eustatius. Licenses from those two territories will have to be exchanged for a license from St. Maarten first.
