St. Maarten – Lack of competition had little or no effect on one of St Maarten’s leading kickboxer Junior Philips but in his most recent fight which took place over the weekend, Philips recorded a first round win while competing in Curacao.
The last time Philips stepped into the ring and won was during one of the undercards on the Fierce & Furious Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts contest at the L.B. Scot Sports Auditorium in November.
On this occasion, Philips stopped Justin Gogulski in the first round during a semi professional none title bout on the ‘Fighters of the Caribbean’ card. Akeem Lewis, another budding fighter also recorded a first round win by the knock out route over Thursten Joseph. Patrick Coulange won by a technical knockout in the third round against Renford Regales and Omar Marsham won by a second round technical knockout against Louis Ignacio.
The only fighter on the Sint Marten team to lose his fight was Ray Koeijers who was unable to get the better of Mohamed Hussien, who took him out in the first round. All of the opponents fought out of the Baas Sport in Curacao. The other participating countries in the tournament were Martinique, Suriname and Aruba.
