GREAT BAY – St. Maarten’s Area 6 Toastmasters came together last Saturday to do registration for the District 81 Toastmasters 2012 Conference, which will be held here from May 18 to May 21. Area 6 consists of five clubs and 60 Toastmasters made the commitment to attend this year’s conference, which is themed: “Beyond Communicating…Connect & Lead”
“Our goal was to register 80 local TMs, thus far we have registered 60, not bad. We are aware of others that have indicated their willingness to assist on a sub-committee but have not registered as yet. Hopefully these persons will be registering soon,” Chairlady of the Conference Planning Committee DTM Valerie Brazier said.
District 81 Lt. Governor of Education & Training DTM Rolande Tobias added, “We are working on making this conference a historical one. So let’s keep up the great momentum and get the remaining local and district delegates to register early so we can plan accordingly.”
The workshop sessions, which will be led by presenters from the region, will cover topics like conflict resolution, preparing for a successful meeting and the six C’s of effective writing. Each session is designed to enhance any attendee’s communication and leadership skills.
Another main feature of the conference is the Table Topics (impromptu) and International (prepared) Speech Contests on Saturday May 19 at 2:30 p.m. These events will pit local and visiting Toastmasters against each other in a display of communication skills.
Registration for the Conference is still open to all Toastmasters and the general public. People can visit the District 81 website www.caribbeantoastmasters.com to obtain more information on how to register and the benefits of attending the District 81 Conference 2012.
