DP and Illidge request meeting with TrompPOSTED: 03/28/12 11:21 AM
St. Maarten – The two member Democratic Party faction and Independent Member of Parliament Patrick Illidge sent a joint request on Monday for a closed door meeting of parliament’s Central Committee that will focus on four issues related to the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten. The two factions want the meeting to be attended by President of the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten Dr. Emsley Tromp. They also want the St. Maarten Banker’s Association to be invited so that they can get first hand information from the Central Bank’s leadership.
The main concern amongst the three MPs is the Central Bank’s decision to freeze the issuing of private credit. To this end the three MPs have requested that Tromp inform parliament on the Central Bank’s present status and the results that led to Central Bank implementing the borrowing ceiling. The trio also wants Tromp to provide information on the political influences affecting the Central Bank, currency for Curacao and St. Maarten vis-a-vis dollarization and to answer the central question of: “Is there a future for a Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten?”
