No more CFT offices in near futurePOSTED: 01/19/12 1:22 PM
St. Maarten – Chairman of the Board of Financial Supervision (CFT) Age Bakker has said budget constraints and a different operational setting means that Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba will not be getting their own CFT office anytime soon. He made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday – a day after he and Finance Minister Hiro Shigemoto jointly opened the office in Philipsburg.
“It is for very understandable reasons that we have opened an office in St. Maarten, but we also have a very tight budget of our own to consider. We should also draw a clear distinction as we independently cooperate with the countries of Curacao and St. Maarten but we operate in a completely different setting for the BES islands which are openbare lichamen (public entities) of the Netherlands. I also would not believe that it is necessary,” Bakker said.
