Cricket coach Singh calls on youngsters to get involvedPOSTED: 01/16/12 12:19 PM
St. Maarten – With the emphasis on developing the game of cricket at the grass roots level, National Cricket Coach Rishi Parsram Singh is once again extending an open invitation to young boys that are willing to get involved with the sport.
Singh, who has singlehandedly taken over the training of the kids in the Kiddy Cricket Program in 2011 on St Maarten – an initiative by Scotia Bank which was introduced back in 2000 – has been beneficial for all concerned.
The ability or inability for some of the regional teams to excel during competitions is just one of the main reasons why the Kiddy Cricket Program is important all over the Caribbean. St Maarten is one of the newest members of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, LICA.
The St Maarten Cricket Association, SMCA through the Youth Development Training Program has been playing an important role while ‘working to keep cricket alive.’ But that would only be possible with the input of participants.
Parents are asked to note that every Saturday morning between nine o’clock and twelve noon, kids can attend clinics at the cricket ground.
