St. Maarten – Five of 10 officers from the police’s motorcycle unit wrapped up a week’s worth of training on Friday. The other group will begin on Monday.
The training is given by Michel Manning and focuses on how to handle a motorcycle and how to ride in specific scenarios like escorting dignitaries and other V.I.Ps and hot pursuits. Maneuvering through traffic and ensuring the general population is safe during pursuit are two key elements of the training.
The police’s six newly and previously acquired Harley Davidson Motorcycles were used for the training, which will also allow for increased controls and assistance at crime scenes.
Discussions have already begun on having an advanced training in 2012 that will build on this round of training.
