WILLEMSTAD/GREAT BAY – Insel Air’s Manager of General and International Affairs Edward Heerenveen has announced they plan to continue flying between Puerto Rico and St. Maarten despite JetBlue’s entry into the market. He’s also pointed out that Insel’s prices are based on their expenses, the applicable taxes and the cost of fuel.
“We will compete in areas such as service and we will see who will endure. If we cannot continue, then St. Maarten will have to continue,” Heerenveen said.
The airline boss has also said they don’t the competition that JetBlue brings to the market and believes they are part of the reason JetBlue can make their entry.
“One of the reasons that some airlines decides to fly the same route as other airlines is because you have maintained the route by investing in the route and making it profitable. They then come to the route like bees to honey,” Heerenveen said.
Insel Air has three flights per week to and from Puerto Rico. That service operates on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday.
