GREAT BAY – St Maarten’s First Annual Haliborange Rotary-Rotaract Spelling Bee Competition is now down to five finalists, who will be vying for the Champion’s title this Saturday at the Belair Community & Fitness Center at 10:00 a.m. The top five spellers moving to the finals are Keya Pariani from Caribbean International Academy (CIA), Tyrese McBene Courtan from St. Joseph School, Deidra Rainford from Charles Leopold Bell School, Maisha Marlin from St. Dominic Primary School and Criselma Maccow from Martin Luther King School.
The event, which is organized by The Rotary Club of St Maarten-Mid Isle and the Rotaract Club Sunrise, started with 23 students on October 1 in a Preliminary Round at the Belvedere Community Center, and produced ten semi-finalists. Local finalists are eligible for prizes that include an Apple iPod, iPad and Mac Book Pro. Prizes will also be given to the winning school and the school with most public support at the events.
Platinum Sponsors include Scotiabank and SOL Antilles, while prizes, goods and services have been provided by Office World, The Daily Herald, Telem, PJD2 Radio, Keijzer Computer Systems, Mighty Dow Ebony Steel Orchestra and Photo Gumbs.
