GREAT BAY – Members of the Rotary Club of St. Maarten’s Alzheimer’s Awareness Committee and the Club’s President Rebecca Low presented a cheque for $5, 000 to Patricia Krolis and Raymond Jessurun of the St. Maarten Alzheimer’s Foundation on Wednesday. The money was raised through the sale of the Alzheimer’s awareness t-shirts.
The sale of the shirts was part of a broader campaign that began on to raise awareness of Alzheimer and to raise funds for the foundation to host a workshop for general practitioners. The training is meant to enhance the doctors’ understanding of the disease.
“We thank the general public for being so receptive and responsive to this project, this is what motivates community service organizations like Rotary to continue serving,” committee chairperson Maria Buncamper-Molanus stated in a release.
“There was also a huge public relations effort in the campaign. There were 500 posters, 1, 000 T-shirts, two newspaper ads, one billboard, four TV ads, 12 press releases, three appearances on TV Talk shows, three appearances on Radio Talk shows, and 17 different radio PSA’s (Public Service Announcements) on seven radio stations which aired just under 3, 000 times.
There are so many to thank and we will do so accordingly, however we would like to thank the SMAF who inspired us to do this project and the media without who’s cooperation this would not be possible,” Buncamper-Molanus added.
