St. Maarten – Police were busy at the weekend dealing with traffic accidents. The latest one was Sunday evening on the A. Th. Illidge Road near the Fresh Market and Abu Ghazi Shwarma. Reports state that a truck hit a man riding a scooter. The driver fled the scene and police are investigation.
The first accident police reported on from the weekend was a 1:30 a.m. collision on the Welfare Road in Cole Bay near Tendal Holdings. According to the statements police have surmised that the driver of M-9626 was speeding towards the Kryuthoff roundabout, lost control of the vehicle while trying to overtake a car with a French license plate (4852 AAA) and slammed into the car and then skidded to stop after hitting a signboard on the sidewalk.
The driver of the car with French license plates complained of pain in his neck, left arm and elbow. The driver of M-9626 suffered a fractured left leg and ankle and got cuts and bruises on his face and body. The victims were all treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.
On that same Friday the police were called back to Welfare Road at 4:30 a.m. This second accident took place near Victoria’s Fashion and involved a motorcycle and rental car. The driver of the rental pulled onto the street while the motorcyclist was attempting to overtake a line of cars. The two collided, the rider fell and had to be treated on the scene for a serious head wound, a broken toe and cuts and bruises on his body
Police also reported that at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday there was a six car collision on the Walter Nisbeth Road near the Marcus Building. Two people were injured. They were treated on the scene and taken to the St. Maarten Medical Center and the Traffic Department is investigating.
