2 organizations still in running for KroonappelPOSTED: 04/23/13 11:47 AM
WILLEMSTAD – The winners of the three ‘extra’ Kroonappels from the Orange Fund on the occasion of the abdication of Willem-Alexander to king, are now known. One organization from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom drew a blank. Curacao is still in the race for an Appeltje van Oranje with two organizations: Stichting Muziekensemble Politieharmonie and Stichting Jeugd Rode Kruis. The three Kroonappels with €50.000 ($64,000) as first prize went to three Dutch organizations: Best Buddies Nederland from Goeree-Overvlakkee in the category Youth, Stichting Stadstuin Emma’s Hof from The Hague in the category District, and Stichting Manteling from Middelburg in the category Helping Hand.
The ten nominees for the ‘common’ Appeltjes van Oranje, who will receive €15.000 ($19,000), are meanwhile known: eight organizations form the Netherlands and two from Curacao. Of the 167 entries ten initiatives were nominated. This year’s theme for the Appeltjes van Oranje is ‘Alle jaren tellen’ (All years count), focusing on the relation between people of different generations, from young and old to children, students, teenagers and those in their thirties. The exact age difference is not important but the initiative must bridge one or more generations. The final purpose is that people from the various groups make contact with the winning organizations, get to know each other better and be active together, from which the social relationship will eventually benefit.
Besides the honor and of course considerable attention in the media, the three final winners of the Appeltje van Oranje will receive €15.000 and a bronze statue made by Queen Beatrix.
Queen Máxima will present the prize during a festive assembly. The presentation of the Appeltjes van Oranje will take place in May at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
