St. Maarten – Nearly seventy potential participants have registered for the second Living Statues Festival that will take place in December in Philipsburg. On Saturday they attended a fact finding mission at the Motiance Dance school where they got information about icon- or scene choice, writing a synopsis of the most important characteristics, and choosing colors.
The Beyond Writing foundation organizes the event together with the Motiance Dance School and the World Statues Foundation.

Today is the deadline for submitting registration forms, parent consent forms (for participants younger than 18) and commitment forms. On Friday the Beyond Writing foundation will let potential participants know whether they have been selected to take part.
The themes from which participants are allowed to choose are Caribbean and regional icons and personalities in the fields of the performing arts (TV, film, fashion, literature, sports, theater, singers), world political heroes or typical Caribbean or regional life scenes. Another possible category is fantasy.
The Living Statues festival will take place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 December. The event received subsidies from the Mondriaan Foundation in the Netherlands and from the Caribbean branch of the Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund.
