THE NETHERLANDS – The St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) has commended Minister Franklin Meyers for announcing that he’s planning to implement a tracking system for business licenses. Once in place the system will allow applicants to digitally track their permit from the moment they apply to the moment it has been finalized.
“The SHTA thinks this is a great step towards reengineering government services and removing all the red tape, which currently acts as an impediment to business and creates an environment for corruption. This latest development will definitely assist in streamlining operations to be more efficient, customer friendly and impactful. ,” the body’s Executive Director Valya Pantophlet stated in a release.

The business group is hoping that government will expand the automation of services into the wider administration in an effort to shorten lines and improve transparency. Work permits, residence permits and building permits are other types of permits the SHTA believes should be traceable in an automated system.
